![]() ![]() Jidenna plays the capable rapper, the classic soul singer, and the Auto-Tuned hook-man, shifting styles and genres at a moment’s notice. The eagerness to show listeners every single thing Jidenna is capable of results in some great songwriting, but in execution, it’s a breakneck race through half a dozen genres, and sometimes two or three within the same song. The wait has rendered it both accomplished and a little impatient. Today’s new The Chief is the culmination of a two-year singles campaign and the decade of study and practice that preceded it. ![]() Instead of blanketing the single and mixtape circuit with new material, advancing his profile based on whatever stuck, he carefully set about expanding on the world “Classic Man” unfurled with a series of follow-up singles alongside Atlanta singer-actress Janelle Monáe’s Wondaland Arts Society collective that matched its careful balance of smooth sonics and coarse thought, if not necessarily its commercial windfall. What do you do when your debut solo single cruises past a million units sold? Jidenna’s patience in devising an answer speaks to a certain poise. This slow ascent is proof the man didn’t arrive classic instead he whittled his aesthetic down over time and breached the public consciousness with it sharpened to a point. Pre-fame performance footage exists if you know where to Google. Jidenna is a Nigerian-born, Ivy League–educated schoolteacher by trade who, as he once told Spin, got into rap by force of intellectual curiosity. If you listened close, there was a verse about what to do about police brutality. Tyler’s rager explained Odd Future’s teenage riot in a single blast of disdain for self and others, but Jidenna’s single pulled off a more nuanced feat, sneaking revolutionary rhetoric into the margins of what seemed to be an innocuous pop jam while presenting a vision of black pride and self-sufficiency in its visual component. You’d have to go back as far as Tyler, the Creator’s “Yonkers” to find a song that maps out the artist’s aesthetic so cleanly for a casual listening audience on a first pass. “Classic Man” was something else: lead single as political Trojan horse, music video as ideological calling card. ![]() ![]() Ĭurb Your Enthusiasm has received high critical acclaim, and has grown in popularity since its debut. The series, however, is not shot as a mockumentary, but is shot in a somewhat similar, cinéma vérité-like style. The special was shot as a mockumentary, where the characters were aware of the presence of cameras and a crew. The series was developed from a 1999 one-hour special, Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm, which David and HBO originally envisioned as a one-time project. Each episode's plot and subplot is established in an outline written by David, and the dialogue is largely improvised by the actors (a technique known as retroscripting). Larry is also routinely the victim of labyrinthine misunderstandings. This social ineptitude, combined with his inability to let even the most minor grievance or annoyance go unexpressed, often leads David into awkward social situations and draws the ire of his friends, family, and total strangers. Episodes frequently center on Larry's ignorance of or disregard for well-established social conventions and expectations, as well as his insistence that others adhere to rules of which only he seems to be aware. Curb Your Enthusiasm often features guest stars, many of them playing fictionalized versions of themselves.Īs with Seinfeld, which David co-created, the humor of Curb Your Enthusiasm often revolves around the minutiae of American daily social life. ![]() Also starring are Cheryl Hines as his wife Cheryl, Jeff Garlin as his manager and best friend Jeff Greene, and Susie Essman as Jeff's wife Susie. When the doctor’s realized it along with the nurses they all felt a special touching moment. Her heart felt like it was going to beat out of her chest, she was impatient and demanded to see her babies now! With what they saw it was really obvious that the two already share a special bond. At first, they were not sure that the babies were OK at first, but when they looked closer they then realized what was really happening, the room then fell silent… The Doctors could not separate the babies to pull them out one by one so they took them out together, entwined into one. But instead, she just heard noises of shock as the babies were taken from her womb. She just wanted to hear her baby cry, it would indicate normal breathing and a successful birth had happened. Rodney Jerkins never fails to deliver when he works with Beyoncé: both as a solo artist as as part of Destiny's child. "Scared of lonely" is without a doubt my fave song on the album. Then in a funny turn we get "Hello" and "Scared of lonely" - 2 songs which clearly should've been placed on the first disc. I can't believe this made the track list, whilst the far superior "Should have (Now I know)" didn't. "Sweet dreams" (previously leaked as "Beautiful nitemare") sounds better now than it did when it first leaked due to tighter production, but is still a throwaway song and not one you'll play all that often. The same goes for "Video phone", which also comes courtesy of Sean 'If you hear a smash on the radio bet I didn't pen it' Garrett. ![]() He brought nothing substantial to the table for "Diva" and even Beyoncé's vocals and swagger is unable to save what is an utter piece of shit song. His shit is as dry as a 4 day old raisin in the sun. Folk in the music game need to realise that Sean Garrett is a whack songwriter and producer. Another song tailor made for pussy popping and weave thrashing.Īlthough the Sasha Fierce disc kicks off loud, it does run out of steam quickly due to some horrendous songs. As with "Single ladies (Put a ring on it)" and most of B's club tracks, we get some "Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh"'s thrown in for good measure. The vocal harmonies on this song are insane, especially towards the end. And as with most of Beyoncé's up-tempo tracks, she takes a pretty standard beat and laces it in a way that no other chick in the game could. The bubble gum synths and 80's sound works wonders. "Radio" has hit single written all over it. The song borrows heavily from the musical template of "Get me bodied", but is still a hot song - made even hotter by the memorable (and already on its way to becoming iconic) music video. It has an infectious charm about it that I cannot get enough of. I hated this song at first, but absolutely love it now. "Single ladies (Put a ring on it)" kicks things off, which is bog standard Beyoncé and nothing new. The Sasha Fierce disc is more of the Beyoncé you either love or hate. There's even enough of a bounce in the song for her to thrash her weave. "Smash into you" in particular is a brilliant song: a contender for being one of Beyoncé's more memorable ballads and the one she'll probably perform years from now to get crowds swaying. "Disappear", "Smash into you", "Ave Maria" and "Satellites" are all beautiful guitar driven mid tempo's which again show a vulnerability and softness to Beyoncé's vocals that very few songs in the past have highlighted. "Halo" is an amazing song which I'm sure will garner her another hit when she drops it as her second single. I don't think Beyoncé has ever sounded so warm and vulnerable on a song before. Regardless of whether you think Leona Lewis would've sounded better had she gotten the song, there's no denying how great Beyoncé sounds on it. This song was supposedly due to go Leona Lewis for her second album, but ended up in the hands Beyoncé. "Halo" is a big ol' power ballad which features the song writing and production talents of One Republic front man Ryan Teddar. Surprisingly she didn't get a writing credit for it! Although I bet Daddy Knowles tried to make it so she did. A nice song and probably one of Beyoncé's better singles because it is such a departure for her. The first disc in the 2 disc set is I am., which kicks off with "If I were a boy". ![]() ![]() ![]() Silver Sable and Black Cat have become two of my favorite characters. I even thought at points that The City That Never Sleeps storyline was even better than the main game's story. Contrary to most game DLCs, they do not feel like filler, the characters are expanded upon and transformed in very drastic ways. They are a great expansion that continues the main story from the game. There were all likeable and leave you wanting to see more of them. This includes secondaries such as Mary Jane, Aunt May, Miles Morales among others. I thought that this interpretation of the classic characters was very well done. Battling the Sinister Six is everything I ever wanted from a Spider-Man experience. That is why I thought the second half of the game was perfect. ![]() I was expecting more of a focus on classic Spidey villains. I think the demon storyline goes on for way too long. Letting you craft you own story to a certain extent. I loved that they included dozens of cosmetic options for Spidey. Speaking of movies, I absolutely loved using the Tom Holland suits, although if you are more of a fan of another interpretation of Spider-Man, there is probably an option for that. At points, It felt a lot like playing a movie, especially with how great the cutscenes and writing were. The story and city of New York are loyal to the comics and all iterations of Spidey. This is one of those games that take advantage of the full immersion of the PS4 and does not become repetitive. The combat and skill tree were very interesting and had a lot of abilities that changed the gameplay quite a bit, providing new experiences even towards the end of the game. ![]() The controls are fun to use and in hard-mode, it provides a fun and stimulating experience. Even when you are doing nothing, it is insanely fun to swing around the New York skyscrapers. The way Insomniac crafted this game shows how passionate and dedicated the studio was to these characters and universe. It is a beautiful tribute to one of my favorite characters of all time. Marvel's Spider-Man is one of the best games I have ever played, there are so many things that I enjoyed here that I wish I could play it all over again. ![]() |
